Heartbeat of Europe

Founded in the 13th century, Berlin has a comprehensive history. Unlike any other city, it is characterized by a variety of changes – from the commercial center and the residential city, to the world city in the Weimar Republic and Berlin, as we know it today. The gateway to Eastern and Central Europe is convincing with a combination of politics, start-ups, established companies, economic peak associations and large trade fairs, such as the Tech Open Air Berlin (TOA) or the IFA. Various industries, which are settled in Berlin, including life science, communication technology and energy technology, help the city on the river Spree to be even more attractive.

The fastest-growing tech startup scene in the world

For some years now, Berlin has attracted global attention for being the best startup eco systems in the world. You have most likely heard about Silicon Valley in San Francisco – the home of tech startups like Apple, Facebook, and Google – but Berlin has its own equivalent of Silicon Valley. Known as Silicon Allee, or Silicon Alley in English, there are no less than 3,000 active tech startups that could potentially create around 40,000 new jobs by the end of the decade. If you are thinking about venturing into online business in Europe, Berlin should be on top of your list! As a nice side note, Berlin also takes 1st place when it comes to European workforce diversity, with 49 percent of its workforce coming from outside of the country, 27 percent of which are women, based on data from a 2014 study.

Culture & Design connected

However, in addition to strong industries and businesses, the city also offers a wide range of options to explore the cultural heritage before or after a meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel Berlin. You can start right in the lobby, as the Aquadom, the world’s largest cylindrical aquarium, is already the first highlight. The Museum Island with its impressive architecture and the selection of exhibitions and museums is also particularly famous. Among them is the Pergamonmuseum or the James Simon Gallery. Did you know that UNESCO appointed the Museum Island in 1999 as a World Cultural Heritage? In addition to the building complex, the reasons for this was the development of modern museum design. This shows once again, which role design plays in combination with education in the city. Also noteworthy is the East Side Gallery as a permanent open-air gallery with unique works by national and international artists on the longest preserved part of the Berlin Wall – a piece of history that you and your business partner should not miss!
