French Festivals Guide #1: The French Riviera

A Guide of Festivals in France with Radisson Blu: #1 the French Riviera

Let us introduce here a series of articles dealing with some our favorite festivals near some of our best Radisson Blu destinations in France.

Festivals on the French Riviera

The French Riviera is a land of festivals. When Springtime comes, the French Riviera starts resonating with the sounds of numerous cultural events which celebrate all types of arts and traditions: theatre performance, modern dance, reading, local traditions, music and so much more.

In Nice for the Nice Jazz Festival

Probably one of the oldest and most prestigious music festivals on the French Riviera. Every year since 1948, the center of the city (Place Masséna and Théâtre de Verdure) will host some big names of Jazz and international music. This year again, the guest list will delight music lovers with some of the most renowned Jazzmen (Herbie Hancock, Tony Allen, Ibrahim Maalouf, Henri Texier, etc.) but also musicians from all over the world (IAM, Laura Mvula, the French singer M and artists from Mali).

Practical information: The Nice Jazz Festival wil take place from July 17th to July 21st, next to the Promenade des Anglais. Site: Nice Jazz Festival (LINK : www.nicejazzfestival.fr)

>The Nice Book Festival: from June 2nd to June 4th 2017, discover some of the best French and foreign writers in the gardens of the Place Masséna.

> “La Fête des Mai”: from May 07th to May 28th 2017 enter the magnificent gardens of Cimiez (in one of the most pleasant quarters of Nice) and enjoy the local traditions through a number of festive events including traditional dance or food and wine tasting.

In Cannes for the International Film Festival

No need really to introduce this global and renowned event. For us 2016 was very special as our Cannes hotel was lucky and proud to host a wonderful side event with the presentation of the latest Jim Jarmusch movie: Paterson, which was part of the official selection. The new edition of the Cannes Film Festival will celebrate its 70th anniversary and will take place from May 17th to May 28th. The official selection has been revealed (amongst many others, movies by Arnaud Desplechin, Sofia Coppola, Michael Haneke, François Ozon, etc.) and the President of the Jury will be the famous Spanish film maker Pedro Almodovar. On a more glamorous note, be informed that the master of ceremony this year will be the delightful Italian actress Monica Bellucci and that the official festival poster features the wonderful Claudia Cardinale dancing in a red dress.
