This autumn, the iconic Radisson Blu Strand Hotel will relaunch a brand new design concept with the aim of making it Stockholm’s leading lifestyle hotel. The award-winning architectural studio Wingårdhs is leading the extensive renewal process the guest rooms and social spaces. Already the lobby and the meeting and events area are completed and this autumn, a new restaurant and bar concept The Strand – a Swedish brasserie – will be a hot spot for both locals as well as international guests wanting to enjoy exciting flavors with a stunning view.
The Favorite Hotel of Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman
Since the opening in 1912, The Radisson Blu Strand hotel has been a hot spot for artists, creators and celebrities such as Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman; but also Lady Gaga and Zara Larsson. It’s a history full of joyful decadence, inspirational design and brave new ideas. We’re excited to combine it with a new modern design.
The iconic property in the heart of Stockholm is currently going through an extensive renovation process of all the guest rooms and social spaces, in addition to a new restaurant and an extension of 17 new guest rooms. The upgrade is implemented in phases and during limited periods to ensure guests are not unduly disturbed.
Already now, the first guests are welcomed to ‘Strand Gatherings’. This is the perfect venue for conferences, dinners and glamorous cocktail parties. Here the guests can enjoy the spectacular views over Nybroviken and the sparkling waters, in a contemporary and sophisticated space. The ground floor plan is also completely renewed and now the lobby has several large, inviting sofas.
“Our guests gather in the lobby to laugh or enjoy a peaceful moment in a sophisticated environment. Many entrepreneurs also create innovative ideas here”, Eva Kalling-Hansson reveals.
A key focus for the hotel, is the team-members’ dedication for giving the guests word class, personal service.
“Our international team takes pride in always putting the guest center stage and create tailor-made memorable moments for their guests. They share their true local Stockholm tips and welcome the guests as their own friends”, Eva Kalling-Hansson explains.
Welcoming the Locals
The development of the new design concept and interior is led by the acclaimed architectural studio Wingårdhs. Focus has been to bring the unique details of the historic building to light again and to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The interior color scheme is based on the shades of the natural materials that has been used in the renewal process like stone, wood, leather, metal, and plaster. The basic is set against more well-defined elements like saturated colors of details, furniture, woodwork and textiles.
The key words for the original architecture were constructive honesty and natural materials – a tradition that we wanted to embrace and pass on. We believe in creating a dynamic experience by leveraging and enhancing the building’s character as a sober foundation and adjust it against the elements of value-added features and new additions that add variety and new experiences, says Gert Wingårdh.
