Staying in Style: Berlin

clothing-items-berlin

Berlin is fast becoming an international city of style. Despite its reputation for glamour in the 1920s it’s only since the fall of the Berlin Wall that the city has become a contender amongst today’s most influential fashion centres. Berlin Fashion Week attracts thousands of the fashion industry elite each year and big hitters like Wolfgang Joop and Michael Michalsky have set up thriving businesses here. With 3.4 million residents from 180 countries Berlin has become a vibrant melting pot where designers enjoy considerable creative freedom.

The German capital’s hip young designers gravitate towards the Alte Schoenhauser in central Berlin. In fact the Hackesche Höfe, a complex of eight courtyards, has become known as one of Europe’s fashion centres on par with Paris, London and Milan. Berlin’s fashion stores are spread throughout the city. Head west to Kurfürstendamm for famous department stores KaDeWe, Peek and Cloppenburg. Or try the Hackischer Markt for cheap and cheerful bargains or the Schlossstrasse with its enormous indoor shopping centre Boulevard Berlin.

My favourite trends for SS14 are pastel colours as well as biker jackets. And what’s better than a combination of both? The contrast of soft pastel colours and a sporty biker jacket is what I would recommend for SS14. There are lots of ways how to wear a pastel biker jacket.
