Take a ride on the Giant Ferris Wheel to see some of the best views of the Cork Christmas Lights or to step into your own Christmas fairytale, visit the mystical fairy village of Tír na Nollaig at Bishop Lucey Park. This magical winter wonderland has displays of enchanted woodland villages and forest creatures and is accompanied by festive Irish music to enhance the spirit of Christmas. There’s no better way to celebrate Christmas than with Christmas Carols. A handy tip is to take in the free festive concerts that are being held as part of the Cork Christmas Celebrations. At the Unitarian Church on Princes Street you’ll find a hidden gem at the Cork Fair Alternative. This Christmas you can visit from the 15th to the 24th of December.
Panto with a difference, oh yes it is!
It’s not Christmas without panto. Pantomine at Cork Opera House offers unique Christmas entertainment with their Improvised panto. This grown up panto offers a different story every night, and is totally unscripted with each show is based on what the audience request. You are in for some side-splitting comedy where anything can happen.
Performances are on during December at the Cork Opera House at Emmet Place, the Improvised panto is not suitable for under 16s, tickets start from €12. Go on get out there and enjoy some outrageous panto fun this festive season.
Be Inspired by traditional music in Cork
After some markets and panto fun why not hit a cosy pub and soak up some traditional Irish music this Christmas? The Lee Sessions are free Irish music sessions held in pubs in Cork city. Usually instrumental and on regularly during the week, it’s a great way to experience Irish music.
See talented groups of musicians playing everything from the fiddle and bodhrán to the piano accordion and Irish bouzouki.
