On the Eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula is Dubai, a sunshine filled, exotic city which warmly welcomes millions of visitors a year. Dubai is renowned for the hospitality of its people, luxurious facilities and world class shopping, as well as its dynamic approach to building design.
No trip to Dubai would be complete without visiting the landmark architecture of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper.
Tallest Building in the World
Officially launched in January 2010, the Burj Khalifa skyscraper is a masterpiece of architecture in downtown Dubai.
At over 828 metres and 160 stories, Burj Khalifa holds a number of world records, including the tallest building in the world, highest outdoor observation deck in the world, and the elevator with the longest travel distance in the world.
The three main elements of the tower are arranged around a central core, and appear to spiral upwards into the sky like petals on a flower. The bold architecture of the tower sparkles in the sun with its glass and stainless steel features, while the interior is inspired by local culture fused with contemporary design. Burj Khalifa and the neighbouring Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard are decorated with over 1,000 pieces of art from prominent Middle Eastern and international artists, with many of the works symbolising global harmony.
Visit Burj Khalifa
Travel 124 floors up this spectacular building for awe inspiring views of Dubai with the ‘At The Top’ observation experience. Your journey starts in the Dubai Mall with a presentation on the history of Dubai and building of Burj Khalifa. You are transported to the base of the tower, then a high speed elevator, travelling at 10 metres per second, speeds you up to the observation deck. Here, you will have exceptional panoramic views of Dubai through glass walls.
By day you can see the vibrant city and out to the desert and ocean, and by night the dazzling city lights below and stars above. Be sure to use one of the special telescopes to look out on scenes of Dubai past, present and future, and step outside to the open air terrace for fresh views. Complete your visit to ‘At The Top’ with a souvenir purchase at the observatory boutique.
After a trip up Burj Khalifa, be sure to take a stroll around the Burj Lake and beautiful park surrounding the skyscraper, which are inspired by the tower’s elegant shape. An evening cruise on the Dubai Fountain Lake Ride takes passengers around the world’s largest performing fountain, on the Burj Lake, from the comfort of a traditional Abra.
In the park you will also find restaurants, lounges, spas and shops, as well as the famous Dubai Mall. The Dubai Mall is home to more than 1,200 stores and leisure attractions. Shop for Arabic and International fashions, purchase gifts, treat yourself to designer goods from boutiques, and visit the world’s largest indoor Gold Souk to browse over 220 gold and jewellery retailers.
A Boulevard Bus Tour is a great way to not only see the spectacular sites of downtown Dubai, but also allows passengers to get on and off at various attractions around Burj Khalifa.
