As one of Finland’s largest cities, Tampere has a lot to offer. Here are a few tips on what you shouldn’t miss while in town!
Moominvalley Art Museum
The Tampere Art Museum Moominvalley is dedicated to the oeuvre of Finnish novelist, painter and illustrator Tove Jansson. The unique collection encompasses around 2000 works and is based on the celebrated Moomin books by Tove Jansson. So far, they have been translated into over 40 languages and continue to fascinate adults and children alike. Especially many guests from Asia have fallen in love with it and are willing to travel thousands of kilometres to see these cute little characters up close.
From art to food: Mustamakkara is one of Finland’s most beloved local dishes. It’s a type of black blood sausage traditionally eaten with lingonberry jam. Although it’s nowadays available in many stores across Finland, it’s widely known as a local delicacy and speciality of Tampere. Mustamakkara is at its best when eaten fresh at market stalls, where it arrives, still warm, in styrofoam boxes coming directly from the producers.
