2014 Berlin Fashion Week in July (8th - 13th)

Berlin city view

Fashionistas from around the globe flock to Berlin for its twice-yearly fashion showcases of young designers and local 'ones to watch'. This summer's shows run from 8-13 July, a week that promises not-to-be-missed surprises for any dedicated follower of fashion.

Berlin Fashion Week: Location, Location, Location

As one of the smaller international fashion weeks, Berlin's annual series of shows has a reputation for being innovative and exciting. Displays are staged for buyers and enthusiasts alike across a range of stunning locations. At the heart of the action, our Radisson Blu Hotel, Berlin is within easy reach of all the showrooms. All along the Spree River from Schlesische Straße in the south to Oranienburger in the north, each plays host to a different collection for a full day.

Household names and ones to watch

Berlin Fashion Week has a reputation for elevating the work of young designers, and this year will be no different. A short list of eight competitors will present their work for this year's Designer for Tomorrow award. Of course, they'll be shown alongside household names like Hugo by Hugo Boss, and local favourites including Blacky Dress Berlin. Franzius's geometric prints and long flowing lines will be making a comeback, and Anne Gorke's Bauhaus-inspired organic textiles are rumoured to be at the head of a large eco-friendly sideshow. The "green" display will include designers whose attention to environmental and social responsibility extends all the way to sourcing fabrics and suppliers.

The A-list after party

Once the shows are over, there's no better time to explore Berlin's bustling nightlife. Join the VIP set for a night on the town, starting at trendy Fuchs & Elster. Quaff a glass of cava in the upstairs cafe, pausing for Spanish inspired tapas (think Manchego cheese and Serrano ham) if you're lucky enough to grab a seat by the window. Downstairs, a boho crowd gathers for typically techno-fuelled drinking and dancing - but join them later on, there's nothing less fashionable than an early guest. Explore some of the city's riverside venues, like the sprawling Arena Club in a former 1920s warehouse.

Shopping the trends

As the home of so many exceptional designers, it's no surprise that Berlin is a Mecca for boutique shopping. The stylish collection at ZwoVier, an intimate shop in the Schoneberg district, includes street-art inspired designs by Armed Angels and classic cuts like Herrlicher denim. North of the river in the Hackesche Höfe district, leading leather accessories brand Gretchen offers striking bags, shiny patent belts and soft, exquisite driving gloves - an elegant staple for any fashionista. After a long day in stilettos, a slice of Misses-Marbles' homemade Kirschtorte might be just what the doctor ordered. This quirky cafe on the corner of Helmholtzplatz is part confectioner, part art boutique, featuring beautiful locally designed home decor.
