Crystal clear turquoise waters and white sand beaches...sound like the perfect backdrop to your holiday? Being on a tropical island paradise such as Mauritius does have its perks. And one of them is the vast amount of silky-smooth beaches where you can dip your toes in the water or spend the day getting your tan on. We’ve gathered some of the best beaches on the island for you to check out.
1. Belle Mare
On the eastern side of Mauritius lies one of the island’s most famous beaches, Belle Mare. A shallow bay protected by the coral reef, the fine white sand and crystal clear waters make it one of the top snorkeling spots on the island. With restroom facilities at the Recreation Centre and several food vendors on the southern end of the beach, you have everything you need to spend a day relaxing in the water.
2. Grand Bay
Life is grand when on Mauritius and the beaches are no exception to this rule. Grand Bay Public Beach is located in the resort town of Grand Baie. This beach is among the most popular ones on the island so expect company. Put on your snorkeling gear and dive into the crystal clear blue waters to see how many colorful fish you can spot. Apart from being a great spot for snorkeling, Grand Bay is home to a plethora of water-based activities such as waterskiing, sailing and windsurfing. If you feel hungry or in need of a refreshment there are several stores and restaurants nearby in town. The beach is also bustling with life, as many fishing boats anchor here, giving you a nice look into daily life on the island.
3. La Cuvette
The neighbouring beach is La Cuvette Public Beach. This beach is a little off the beaten track than the other beaches in the area making it less crowded. What makes La Cuvette unique is the choice of “mini beaches”, each one decorated with rocky outcrops. All of this comes wrapped in a tranquil atmosphere. If you bring a ball with you, there are plenty of grassy areas to play football. Following the coastline from La Cuvette to Grand Baie makes for a picturesque walk with a fantastic view. Along the way are benches so you can take a break and soak up the beautiful views. If you’re planning to be on this beach at sunset, make sure you bring your camera (and include hashtag #RadissonBlu in your Instagram post so we can see your beautiful shots!)! Psst! You could even win your next stay if your photo gets chosen for our Guestagram contest!
4. Mont Choisy
Close to Grand Bay lies another sandy yet well-kept secret. Mont Choisy Beach has a total of three kilometers of pristine sands making it a perfect spot for a relaxing day in the rays of the sun. If you visit during the week, chances are you won’t be just another face in the crowd as the beach is not as developed as the others. Go for a run by the water or join a game of football along with the locals. Either way you’ll be glad you came.
5. Bras d’Eau
Close to the Bras d’Eau National Park, this public beach is a hidden lagoon perfect for a picnic and lounging in the sun. Its rocky waters make swimming difficult but instead you can enjoy the many flying fish soaring across the surface. Fill your picnic basket with fresh fruits, tasty sandwiches, some refreshing drinks and head out for a fun day in the sun. Go on an adventure into the national park afterwards to see more of Mauritius’ natural beauty.
Slip into your most comfortable swimwear and indulge in the silky smooth beach of Pereybère. With little to no coral in sight this pearl on the northern coast is a fantastic location for any swimmer. With sun chairs and parasols at the ready you might as well just lounge your day away here. In case you need a break from the sun and the parasols aren’t enough you can relax in the shade of the nearby trees.
7. Ile aux Cerfs
A short boat ride from the main island lies Isle aux Cerfs. As one of Mauritius’ most popular attractions, it is bustling with life, but with a beach that stretches all around the island there is enough space for everyone. When you approach the island, you’ll see the swaying palm trees and crystal clear turquoise water that meets the white sandy beach. Its location inside a large lagoon provides safe harbor and calm waters, perfect for frolicking in the sun.
Few places can offer as many pristine beaches and exquisite views as Mauritius. But you don’t have to travel far to enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful beaches when you’re staying at Radisson Blu Azuri Resort & Spa, Mauritius. Right outside the resort a private white sand beach awaits you, nestled in a crystalline lagoon and with ample opportunities for enjoying all the water has to offer. See you there!
