Cardiff is packed to the brim with festive events this Christmas. From concerts and pantos, to markets and Santa’s grotto, here are the top seasonal highlights. It’s nearly time again to start dreaming of candy canes, gingerbread and mulled wine. If you are planning a pre-Christmas visit to Cardiff with friends for a festive celebration or bringing the family along for some fun and entertainment, there is plenty to be excited about.
As the winter nights draw in we all look forward to dazzling fairy lights decorating our streets and brightening up the evenings. The celebrations kick off in Cardiff on the 9th November. Watch the city centre transform before your eyes with entertainment, performances, attractions and even a reindeer parade to pull Santa along on his sleigh. This free event is fun for all the family and marks the opening of the Winter Wonderland, Christmas Markets and the start of late night shopping in the lead up to the festive.
Quaint market stalls
Nothing says Christmas more than rows of decorated wooden huts selling food, drink and handcrafted gifts. The markets stretch through several streets in the heart of the city and are sure to bring festive cheer to all. Grab a hot chocolate and let it warm your hands as you wander through.

Winter Wonderland returns for this season from 15th November – 6th January. Start with the rides at the family funfair, followed by taking to the ice on the Open Air Ice Rink. Skate, dance and pirouette to musical classics with your loved ones. Then enjoy some ‘après skate’ time at the Alpine Village. Each chalet serves delicious edible treats and mulled wine to take the chill off the winter evenings.
To make your Yuletide preparations run smoothly, book a workshop at Cardiff Castle. Learn the art of making wreaths and the perfect way to decorate your table. It will be one or two less things to worry about when Christmas comes around. Check out what's on at Cardiff Castle this season.
