Captivating Culinary Adventures in Karnataka

When you’re planning a road trip, there are three golden rules to follow: firstly, make sure your destination feels completely different to your starting point – this will enhance the sense of discovery. Secondly, plan your route to include major landmarks. And thirdly, pack plenty of snacks for the journey!

Embark on a Journey Through Time

This 145km drive in Karnataka, from India’s Silicon Valley to the ancient city of Mysore, is one of the country’s most popular road trips and feels like a journey through history. It is also an enticing culinary journey with plenty of local treats to try.

Radisson Blu Atria Bengaluru is a great place to start your adventure. Tijouri, the hotel’s authentic Indian restaurant, showcases a series of signature dishes, such as nalli curry, prawn ghee roast, and masala chai creme brûlée. The next morning, fill up with ragi roti, Karnataka’s popular breakfast dish, at our breakfast buffet!

Then start your engine and head out on the three-and-a-half-hour drive from Bengaluru to Mysore, the cultural capital of Karnataka. Before you leave, stock up with pre-packed snacks, including mutton saaru, kal dosa (rice pancakes) and, in homage to your destination, Mysore pak – sweet ghee cookies.

Immerse Yourself in the Natural Wonders of Mysore

As you approach Mysore, you’ll drive through the Chamundi Hills. Soak up the natural scenery at Karanji Lake and Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary before checking in to your hotel. Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Mysore is a wonderful base from which to explore this historical city. In the evening, you can dine at Mysouth, which specializes in authentic southern Indian recipes such as bhatkali kori biryani (chicken cooked with rice and special spices), baked obattu (coconut and bengal gram crepe), homemade coorgi coffee ice cream, and bisibella hulliana (a rice masala dish).

Mysore was part of its own kingdom until the 1950s, and its independent spirit is reflected in its cuisine. When you head out to visit local landmarks like Mysore Palace, don’t forget you pick up street-side treats such as Mysore bhajis, ragi mudde (local dumplings) and akki roti (rice flatbreads).

The journey from Bengaluru to Mysore often feels like you’re traveling through time. This rewarding road trip will also transport your taste buds on a journey of discovery.
