Nothing in Dubai is done half-heartedly. Everything is slightly bigger, a little more modern and a lot more glamorous in this progressive Emirate. The first couple of months of 2018 are eventful, exciting, and the perfect time to explore what this glorious city has to offer. Here are some of the first events and festivals of the upcoming year:
REDFEST DXB - A festival in the heart of Dubai Media City
RedFestDXB is the largest music festival in the United Arab Emirates, hosted in association with Virgin Radio. The event will take place on the 8th and 9th of February at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre which is only a five minute walk from the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City. For the 2018 edition, DJ duo The Chainsmokers will be headlining day one. Best known for hits including Closer and Don’t Let Me Down, the pair have won two American Music Awards. They’re joined on the line-up by American rapper Russ, English singer-songwriter Kelli-Leigh, and the French-Lebanese artist Anthony Touma.
Headlining the second day of the festival will be the singer Kesha. Also taking to the stage on the Friday will be British R&B star Craig David, singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha, and producer Marshmello. Dubai-based DJ Dany Neville will be hitting the decks at the end of each night to bring the festival to a close. The RedFestDXB venue is located a short walk from the hotel and after a day of festivities, you can return to the reassuring comfort of the hotel to put your feet up. Or, if you don’t fancy attending the festival itself, why not just hang out at Tamanya Terrace with a view of all the fun from the rooftop bar?
Dubai Jazz Festival
The Dubai International Jazz Festival is the most awarded and longest-running music festival in the United Arab Emirates. It has attracted over 500,000 fans and featured more than 450 shows since its inception in 2003, with people attending from across the UAE and around the world to enjoy beautiful music.
Local and world-famous artists
The festival will take place from the 21st to 23rd of February with a 3-day event.
Headlining the first day of the festival will be British rock band Duran Duran, who’ll be performing some of the biggest hits from their forty-year-career, including 'Rio' and 'Hungry Like The Wolf'. Fans can also expect to hear music from their latest album, Paper Gods.
Performing on the second night of the festival, on Thursday 22 February, will be the ten-time Grammy Award-winning artist John Legend. He’s worked with best-selling artists including Kanye West, David Guetta, and Alicia Keys. His biggest hits include 'Green Light', 'Glory', and 'All of Me', which was the third biggest-selling song of 2014.
Latin music star Ricky Martin will close the festival on 23 February. This will be his debut performance in Dubai, and fans can expect to see him performing his biggest hits, including 'Livin’ La Vida Loca', 'Vente Pa’ Ca', and 'She Bangs'. Martin has been making music since he was 12, when he joined the Puerto Rican boyband Menudo, and he’s gone on to sell more than 70 million albums around the world.

Dubai Shopping Festival
Kick off New Year and its busy events calendar with the Dubai Shopping Festival 2018 which will run for the whole month of January. The “DSF” is, in fact, the biggest shopping and entertainment extravaganza in the Middle East, offering a range of glamorous events and activities.
This year the biggest malls across the city are stepping up the spirit with fun, lively in-mall entertainment, using innovative acts and performances to dazzle and delight shoppers. Beach Canteen 2018
From February 21st to March 10th 2018 the “Beach Canteen” returns to Dubai as part of the Dubai Food Festival. Visitors will be able to browse a selection of some of Dubai’s best home-grown restaurant concepts and food trucks, as well as pick up some culinary tips from local and international celebrity chefs. As well as food, there will also be plenty of activities for the whole family, with fitness classes, a kids’ play area, live music from Dubai-based bands, a market, and even a beach cinema. The festival will be held at “Sunset Beach” which is the perfect spot to relax with the sun, sand and the picturesque Arabian Gulf at the background.
Taste of Dubai
Consider yourself a foodie? Then Taste of Dubai happening March 8 - March 10th is something you can't afford to miss out on, and your taste buds will love you for attending. This is a three-day food extravaganza, gathering international celebrity chefs and the best of the city's restaurant scene. You can either kick back, relax and watch as the chefs create culinary pieces of art or join them for a workshop and learn some tricks of the trade to impress with when hosting your next dinner party.
There's also a wide range of entertainment filling the Media City Amphitheatre and if you're bringing the kids you can rest assured that they will have the time of their lives at the Kids' Zone. This is a foodie's paradise as well. Who says you can't have it all?
