Doha is one of those cities that has become a really hot travel destination in the last few years (pun intended). Qatar is a nation rich in culture and is ready to entertain your socks off. We thought the best way to get you acquainted with Doha was to ask some locals what makes it awesome.

Lifestyle bloggers Karen and Allyson grew up in Qatar and love blogging about their city on Life with Karlly. They started the blog for the fun of it in 2014 and it has become a great place to look when preparing a trip to Qatar.

Top 3 Doha experiences

These two Qatar lovers know there is plenty of things to see and do in the capital. We asked them what they consider to be the top 3 things that all visitors should do:

1. Smoke Shisha at Souq Waqif

“Every visitor should at immerse themselves in the old charm of the Souq Waqif. Most locals smoke shisha there as well. As the saying goes ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do.’” This souq is the center of attention in Doha and has great shopping and delicious dining options.

2. Take a road trip to Zekreet Fort

The Zekreet area is beautiful in its simplicity and is a hit with nature lovers and water sport enthusiasts. The beach here is not crowded like those in Doha and the fort is a great place to explore. Life with Karrly recommend you head there to “absorb the astonishing landscape with prehistoric sites and check the remnants of the past.” It can be difficult to find your way there but Explore Qatar have good driving instructions, or you can join a guided tour with Stop Over Trips.

3. Dine or Grab a coffee at The Pearl Qatar

Following the fantastic creations in Dubai, The Pearl is a man-made island designed to excite with restaurants and other attractions. Life with Karlly tell us it is “truly a marvel and has significantly improved over the recent years.”

So where do you relax?

If you are travelling on business or have a hectic schedule, then you will want to know how to escape even for just a quiet coffee or quick break from the city rush. “We advise you to go to the Museum of Islamic Art Park where they have a hidden gem called the ‘MIA Café’. It offers such a gorgeous view of the West Bay area and the Doha Skyline is amazing to look at especially during the evenings because of the skyscrapers. The park is a big area as well, so you are able to take long walks and take time to relax.”

Where to dance and what to eat?

It is always a good idea to ask a local where the best food and nightlife can be found, so we asked for two recommendations.

“The bar that we would recommend is the new hot spot of Doha which is called the Society Lounge. A restaurant we would recommend is the Belgian Beer Cafe at the Intercontinental because of its chill vibe.” The girls also gave us a hint and said the “best tasting food on their menu is the ‘Mussel Pot.’”
