After an exciting World Cup in Brazil this summer it’s once again time for some club football. The English Premier League is one the most popular in the world and it kicks off in just a few days.
Watching the English Premier League live at a stadium is something every football supporter should have on their bucket list, and there is no better city than Liverpool to check this off. The city is without doubt one of the greatest football cities on the British Isles, with two of the best clubs in the league: Liverpool F.C. and Everton F.C.
At the famous Anfield Stadium, located at the southeast corner of Stanley Park, you will find the home of Liverpool Football Club where all their home games are played. The LFC supporters are known worldwide for creating an amazing atmosphere, especially when singing ‘You’ll never walk alone’ just before each match kicks off. It’s guaranteed to give you goosebumps, even if you’re not a Liverpool F.C. fanatic.
Anfield has been the Reds’ home since the club was founded in 1892 and today the stadium has a 45 500 capacity. Games are usually sold out so buying tickets in good time is recommended. Besides watching a game, make sure you take the stadium tour where you can visit the new Shankly Exhibition. You can even choose tours with former club legends like John Aldridge, Phil Thompson and Jan Molby. Don’t forget your camera!
With 18 league titles and five European Cups, Liverpool F.C. is one of the most successful clubs in England. They were very close of clinching their 19th league title last season, but were passed by Manchester City in the end, making them eager to take that final step in the upcoming season.
On the other side of Stanley Park you will find Goodison Park Stadium, the home of Everton Football Club. The stadium has a total capacity of 40 000 and has been ‘the Toffees’ ground since 1892, when they moved from Anfield after a dispute over rent.
Everton F.C. also offer a stadium tour where you can go behind the scenes at Goodison Park. Here you will have the opportunity to walk down the tunnel and see the dressing rooms where some of the best players in the world prepare before a game. This is an amazing experience for any football lover.
Since its foundation in 1878, Everton F.C. has competed in the top division for a record 111 seasons and have won the premiership nine times. Last season Everton finished fifth in the league and were close to the important fourth place which would have given the Evertonians a spot in the lucrative Champions League competition.
A weekend of football
If football is your passion, Liverpool is a city to visit, regardless if you are a fan of the two premier league clubs or not. With two of the best teams in England you are guaranteed to see some quality football. Combine this with a stadium tour and you’ll have an unforgettable weekend that any avid football fan dreams about.
Whether you’d like to visit Anfield or Goodison Park, or maybe even both, the Radisson Blu Hotel, Liverpool is an ideal place to stay. Only 3.5 km away from either stadium, this is a perfect location for a walk amongst other football fans on a match day. The atmosphere outside the stadiums is something you don’t want to miss out on, so this walk is highly recommended.
