Think People, Think Community, Think Planet

Think people Responsible Business initiative with Radisson Blu

At Radisson Hotel Group, our aim is to think about people, the planet and the community through everything we do. It's that simple. We are proud to be a responsible business and hope that our passion shines through to our guests as soon as they step into one of our hotels. Read on to discover some of the ways we are helping to make a difference, and how you can get involved as well.

Think People

When you stay with Radisson Blu, we want to ensure that you get a sense of our company culture: people are at the center of everything we do. Our ethical standards can be seen every day in the way we treat all our stakeholders from guests to the team members you’ll meet when you stay with us. We also promote human rights, business ethics and diversity in our hotels. Discover more about the initiatives Radisson Hotel Group has put in place to help develop talents and increase young people’s employability.

Oh, and of course we make sure our staff has the opportunity to give back by volunteering and supporting our Responsible Business initiatives, like through charity runs.

Think Community

Through partnerships, with organizations that work in our communities, we’re helping to provide basic human needs such as food and shelter. See below for a few of the ways we’re helping making a difference (and how you can play your part too!).

Get involved in support of SOS Children’s Village

During our annual Community Action Month, our hotels are helping to turn their Every Moment Matters mindset into a positive impact not only for our guests but for those in need. Throughout the year, we partner with SOS Children’s Village, an international organization that works in 135 countries and territories to ensure that children grow up in a safe and caring family environment. Throughout the month of June, if you travel with Radisson Blu, you’ll see various ways you can help contribute: by making a donation to make use of the fitness facilities (which are free of use), by making a donation when you grab a coffee, and even simply by buying a hotdog at the hotel’s fundraiser! Make sure to check with the reception regarding how the hotel you’re staying at is participating. The Radisson Blu Hotel, Lusaka for example is sponsoring “Plant-A-Million” to build a tree nursery at the Lusaka SOS Children’s Village. The project also includes training the children on how to use tree products in a sustainable productive way.

Soap for hope

Radisson Blu brings WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) to the community with the Soap for hope initiative in collaboration with Diversey: over 7 million children die each year from diseases that can be prevented with simple hand washing. At each Radisson Blu hotel, used soap bars typically generate up to 1.7 tons of solid soap waste per year. With Soap for Hope, unfinished soap bars are reprocessed locally, turned into new soap bars, and donated to the local communities with limited access to hygiene and sanitation.

Think Planet

Did you know that water covers 71% of our incredible planet but only 1% of this massive amount is actually drinkable? Experts predict that, by 2025, more than half the world’s population will be facing water-based vulnerability. Meanwhile, tourism and hotels create an increase in water consumption, significantly impacting local water availability for the communities in which we operate. Our Radisson Hotels specifically focus on conserving and protecting the earth’s priceless water supply. Read on to learn how you and Radisson Blu can help save water.

Towel reuse

We partner with the international water aid Just A Drop in our towel reuse program, helping to save over 25,000 children by providing them with safe drinking water for life. You reuse the bath towel, the Radisson Blu hotels will do the rest. For every 500 towels reused, the hotel makes a donation to Just a Drop on behalf of the guest. In this way you can directly contribute to our planet, not only by having a lighter environmental footprint, but also by bringing safe drinking water to communities in need.

Just a Drop helps communities to improve their health, nutrition and provide food security, and stimulates the community to rise out of poverty. Women and children are positively impacted as they no longer have to walk long distances to collect water. Funds donated by Radisson Blu hotels have funded the construction of a sand dam, a shallow groundwater abstraction well, a rock water-catchment area, and two school water tanks.

This year, hotels have the option to participate in Green Housekeeping, which is a housekeeping by-pass program designed to help conserve resources like water and energy, resulting in a reduced environmental footprint. So, next time you stay with Radisson Blu, help to participate in our water saving efforts and choose to forgo housekeeping (even if only for a day!)

Psst! Discover more about how our hotels are helping to preserve our planet, such as by refusing the straw or even helping to protect the lives of sea turtles in Bali!
