Düsseldorf is renowned for being a trendy, modern and affluent city. It is here that a 17-year-old Claudia Schiffer was first discovered by model scouts, and the city boasts an enviable selection of fashion stores. Frogot Milan, Rome or Paris and read on to find out why Düsseldorf should be next on your list of ultimate shopping destinations.
The fashion boulevard
'Kö', as it's affectionately referred to by locals, is Düsseldorf most treasured boulevard. From Armani to Zara, this lively street has every style and taste covered. Luxurious fashion stores and jewelers sit wall-to-wall with museums, cafes, restaurants and bars. It is little wonder Königsallee has been dubbed Germany's most exclusive kilometer. Trees and green banks line the 580 meter-long moat which runs along the boulevard, whilst the architecture of the 200 year old street's bridges, fountains and sculptures make it easy to see why it ranks among the great boulevards in the world. In addition to the extensive fashion outlets on Kö, you can find even more designer shops in the Kö Galerie, a shopping center located just off the boulevard. Shadowstrasse, meanwhile, can also be found close to Königsallee and is known as one of Germany's busiest shopping streets. Here you'll find all the best-known fashion chains and department stores side by side.
Düsseldorf's Old Town or Altstadt as its known locally, is much more than just 'the longest bar in the world', a name earned thanks to the over 200 pubs that can be found in this charming area of the city. It also houses independent boutiques which offer a different, yet equally inspiring alternative to the city's exclusive fashion retailers. It's a great place to find some hidden gems in second hand stores, or some stylish jewelry in one of the many independent shops that run along the Old Town's delicatessen market.
Join over 4,000 international trade visitors at the Gallery Düsseldorf's flagship fashion trade show. Taking place in July, it features some of the world's leading designer brands showcasing the latest, cutting-edge fashion designs. Music, food and drinks also form part of the four day event, making it the perfect place to seek inspiration ahead of your next shopping excursion. So head along and take in the atmosphere whilst learning about the latest trends and grab a sneak peak of the styles that have yet to hit the high street stores.
