Summer fun in Norway´s mountains at Trysil Resort

Trysil is one of Norway’s largest ski resorts, but the fun doesn’t end when winter is over. In summertime, the resort comes alive with a massive choice of activities including rafting, horse riding and one of the country’s biggest bike parks.

The stunning mountain resort of Trysil is located in South-East Norway on the Swedish border. Its proximity to Oslo makes it a favorite for residents of the city and visitors as it is easily accessible. A short 3.5 hour drive from the capital, will find yourself in spectacular nature made up of magnificent mountains, green forests and cascading rivers. The perfect summer playground! Check out our top tips for an active vacation in Trysil.

Playing in the river rapids

If you're the kind of person who's attracted to black runs, moguls and large jumps during the ski season, then chances are you're also seeking some action during the summer months. Trysilelva, the river that runs through the resort is perfect for an adrenaline-fueled vacation. Unlike many other rivers in Norway, this one does not flow out of a glacier, meaning the water temperature is significantly higher. Book a white water rafting tour, which is open to thrill-seekers over the age of 15. In between the rapids and waterfalls, the river also has quieter sections allowing you to catch your breath and prepare for the next daring bend.

You can also try your hand at canoeing, canyoning and river boarding, testing your limits with Trysilguidene tours. Riverboarding involves getting very close to the water but gives you greater control as you head downstream head first on a small board. If you want to get even more in tune with the river, try canyoning. The adrenaline will be pumping as your experienced guide takes you walking, jumping and swimming down waterfalls and rapids along the river.

Taking it at a slower pace

Trysil’s rivers and lakes are not all about action. If you are looking to spend a day on a placid lake surrounded by beautiful forests then visit Ulvsjøen, the resorts largest pike fishing lake. There is a small hut here where you can rent canoes and boats, and paddle across the tranquil lake or see if you can catch a fish or two for dinner.

Saddle up

If you prefer to stay on solid ground and keep your feet dry then head to Trysil Hestesenter (Trysil Riding Center) and saddle up for a riding trip with a four-legged friend. Explore the local wilderness and untouched nature on horseback. Choose from a two hour, half day or full day trek. If you really want to be at one with nature then take part in one of the riding weekends. The tours allow you to learn about and care for the horses while offering stunning views and wildlife experiences. If you are lucky, you may encounter birds, moose, red squirrels and other native Scandinavian forest animals.

A refreshing dip

After an adventurous day in nature under the hot sun, there's nothing better than to cool off with a freshwater bath. All around Trysil are delightful bathing spots ideal for revitalizing tired bodies after activities. Head to the idyllic Tjønna, located on a small island northwest of Gjetsjøen. The lake is easily accessible by car, bus and bike, and the hotel staff will gladly help you on your way with directions.

Downhill action on two wheels

Trysil is a haven for bike enthusiasts. With one of the country’s biggest and best downhill bike parks, the terrain allows for all abilities, from beginners to world champions. At the Radisson Blu Resort, Trysil, mountain and terrain bikes are available for hire for big and small whether you want to discover country roads, forest trails or rougher terrain.
