Explore the Waterways of Hamburg
Summer is the perfect time of year to explore the waters of Hamburg. You can take Canal Tours to explore the history of this important port. Modern harbor barges take visitors through the canals and waterways, around the harbor, past ancient bridges and landmark architecture. Get aboard the Maritime Circle Line to see some of the best Hamburg attractions as well as historic ships and the harbor buildings. You can hop on or hop off the Maritime Circle Line at any stop, with highlights being the award-winning Emigration Museum, and International Maritime Museum Hamburg.
For something different, head down to the harbor at night and take a night tour on the waters. You’ll see the city lights beautifully reflected at the Port of Hamburg and in the gothic warehouses of Speicherstadt.
Enjoy summer in the Green City
With over a thousand parks in the city, Hamburg has many green spaces to enjoy. The Planten un Blomen park is a must visit. With the largest Japanese garden in Europe, a botanical garden, tropical greenhouse, rose gardens and more inside, it’s a rather tranquil place to explore. During the summer you can see spectacular daily water shows in the gardens as well as special water light shows each night. There are also regular concerts, spoken word evenings and other fun events at Planten un Blomen.
Hamburg’s Jenischpark is also a delightful place to visit. Visitors will be able to truly enjoy the sights of the beautiful 43 hectare park, complete with green meadows, a stream, ancient trees and a wonderful view of the Elbe River. In Jenischpark you’ll also be able to visit the grand state rooms of Jenisch House, which now functions as a museum of furniture, paintings and sculpture. Also in Jenischpark is the Ernst Barlach Museum, which has works and information on the sculptor. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the summer sun, or head to one of the nearby cafes for lunch.
