Malta is an island surrounded by the beautiful clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Visitors to Malta will find themselves spoiled for choice for beaches, and should make the most of their stay by hiring a car to get to some of the best stretches of golden sand and the most beautiful secluded beaches on the island. Our luxurious Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Malta Golden Sands, is the perfect place to make your home as you tour the beaches of Malta.
If you take a car to the north of Malta you'll find Mellieha Bay, the largest sandy beach in the island. Similarly regarded as one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, Ghadira Bay is popular with locals and tourists alike. Facilities and access are excellent and you can hire sunbeds, umbrellas and water sports equipment to add thrill to your trip. There are cafes and food vendors on the beach, public showers and toilets all available close to the village of Mellieha. Another beautiful beach in north Malta is Paradise Bay, near Cirkewwa, set in a secluded natural cove with crystal clear waters and picturesque views.
East of Eden
Drive to the west coast of the island for some great beaches in Malta. The rocky but flat coastline of Balluta Bay makes a great place to spread out a towel and step into the deep, clear waters for a swim. The beach stretches from Sliema and over to St. Julian's, and is especially popular with sunbathers and snorkelers. There are plenty of other beaches in Sliema to enjoy, notably Qui si-Sana beach and the Tigne waterfront. Sliema itself is a great place for a meal or to do some shopping after you've relaxed by the water.
South to Sunshine
If you drive to the south of Malta to the small town of Birzebbuga you’ll be rewarded with pleasant beaches in a flourishing little seaside beach, Pretty Bay. It is the main beach for Birzebbuga, with a large stretch of sand and good facilities. There are cafes, bars and restaurants nearby offering a range of food and drink for beach goers, and a playground for children. Nearby St. George's Bay is a charming inlet used for boats, and is a good destination for fans of water sports.
The scenic Gnejna Bay is a great Malta beach to drive to. It is quiet and mainly used by locals, with a sandy beach and shallow waters which make it suited to families. In the west is one of Malta's most popular beaches lies Golden Bay. This Malta beach has excellent facilities, with sunbeds and umbrellas available for hire, and good access. You can try your hand at water sports on the beach, with snorkeling being a particularly good option. There’s room for family games on the sand and barbecues as the sun goes down. If you feel like you've spent enough time in the sand, you can always spend the rest of the evening at the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Malta Golden Sands just a few minutes away and enjoy a cool drink or refreshing ice cream at Pebbles Bar & Ice Cream Parlour.
