Plan Your Winter City Break in Kyiv

View of Kiev city urban building architecture

Kyiv in winter is very different from the lush, green gardens of the warmer summer months. But it's just as beautiful - if not more - during the chilly months! The Snowy landscapes, white trees and the freshness of the frosty air puts the beauty of the architecture at center stage. See below for a short sightseeing guide around Kiev covering the city's most picturesque spots to check out this winter.

Sleep well for an early start

After a cozy night at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Kyiv, go visit the closest attraction to the hotel, The Golden Gate Kiev. It's only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It was the main gate in the 11th-century fortifications of Kiev - the capital of Kievan Rus'.

Visit the cultural sites

Afterwards you can proceed to the St.Sophias Cathedral which in its time was the first site in Ukraine to be inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The spacious Sofiiska square in front of the glorious bell tower is usually a place for city festivals and celebrations.

Nearby – actually opposite one another – you'll notice the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery. Its vibrant light-blue color, sparkling golden domes under the sun and bright fresco paintings will fascinate you. Travel photography enthusiast? You'll want to schedule in some time at this location!

Shopping and entertainment in Kyiv

Having warmed up a bit in the Monastery, take a 10 minute walk to the Kyiv central street and historical Maidan square. Here you can find many underground shops, restaurants and cafes for any taste and price point.  Strolling along Khreshchatyk, you won’t miss the newly renovated, unique Kiev department store – TSUM. This is the location not only for Ukrainian and international fashion brands, but a venue for presentations, events and entertainment.
